Description des travaux
Dr Bonnet, professeur agrégé à la faculté de médecine à l'Université Laval, fellow de American Heart association et chercheur au centre de recherche de l'IUCPQ, poursuit ses travaux de recherche dans le domaine cardiovasculaire.
Les travaux du Dr Bonnet ont conduit à la découverte du mécanisme qui provoque l'hypertension artérielle pulmonaire. Son équipe a également repéré deux substances susceptibles de traiter efficacement cette maladie.
Le Dr Bonnet, en collaboration avec Dr Steeve Provencher, a fondé et codirige le Groupe de recherche en hypertension pulmonaire.
Le groupe du Dr Bonnet utilise une approche multidisciplinaire et translationelle (du gène a la population) afin d'étudier les mécanismes moléculaires et cellulaires impliqués dans le développement des processus de remodelage vasculaire (HTAP et coronaire) et bronchique. Ces travaux ont permis l'identification de nouveaux marqueurs de risque, améliorant ainsi l'identification et la prise en charge des individus souffrant HTAP.
Ses travaux ont aussi permis d'identifier de nouvelles cibles thérapeutiques comme Pim-1, miR-204 ou encore PARP-1 dans HTAP. Par ailleurs, de nombreux travaux conduits dans le laboratoire du Dr Bonnet visent à évaluer l'impact de ces cibles dans les maladies coronaires qui possèdent de nombreuses similitudes avec HTAP.
La création, par les Drs Bonnet et Provencher, du groupe de recherche en hypertension pulmonaire, offre de nouvelles perspectives de recherche en HTAP. En effet l'association de la recherche fondamentale et pré-clinique du Dr Bonnet à la recherche clinique du Dr Provencher permet dès à présent la réalisation de projets de recherche du laboratoire au lit du malade ce qui accélérera sans aucun doute la découverte de nouvelles thérapies.
Prix et distinctions
16- 2014 : Prix Louise Rousselle-Trottier décerné par la Fondation des maladies du coeur et de l’AVC - Québec pour son étude intitulée « Role for DNA damage signalling in Pulmonary Hypertension ». Ce prix d’excellence est décerné au chercheur qui a atteint la plus haute note d’évaluation dans le cadre d’un projet de recherche sur l’hypertension.
